So our goal is discipleship (helping students begin to own their faith and then join God on His mission). And going to church is a really important part of that discipleship process. But you know what? (Don't freak out) When it comes to discipleship, our church isn't the MOST important part. Before we explain any more about what our ministry is all about, we want to make sure one thing is super clear. We believe that, in any student's life, and especially where their discipleship is concerned, this is true....the influence of a family especially parents is always greater than the influence of a church.
Another way to phrase it, from the super smart people at the reThink Group, who are major players and innovators in this "partnering with parents" movement...What happens at home is more important than what happens at church. No matter what , a student's parents (not their church) will always be the biggest influence in their lives in every way - especially spiritually. So if we (the church) want to see kids start owning their faith and living on mission with God, doesn't it make sense for us to partner with the most powerful, influential people in their lives in order to make it happen?
We use the term "partner" for a reason-because parents and the church need each other. We need to team up with you, the parents, in our effort to disciple your children, because you are ultimately the primary disciplers of their own kids. And we want you as parents to team up with us because your kids need to see faith in Jesus and missions modeled from a whole community of believers!
